Abstract

EIGEGREN LITUMA, Mariela  and  NAKAMATSU KUNIYOSHI, Javier. Unsaturated polyesters from PET waste. Rev. Soc. Quím. Perú [online]. 2009, vol.75, n.1, pp.26-32. ISSN 1810-634X.

Plastic waste can become an interesting source of useful organic compounds. This work presents the study ofthe depolymerization ofpolyethylene terephthalate with ethylene glycol. The main product, bis(hydroxyethyl) terephthalate, BHET, was isolated and subsequently polymerized with maleic anhydride and ethylene glycol to form an unsaturated polyester resin. The polymerization reaction was followed by quantification of the acid value and 1H-NMR spectroscopy.

Keywords : PET; recycling; depolymerization; unsaturated polyester.
