CCORINAUPA H., Flavio; MEZA C, Víctor y FUKUSAKI Y., Alejandro. Isolation and selection of microorganisms that degrade limonin. Rev. Soc. Quím. Perú [online]. 2009, vol.75, n.3, pp.362-373. ISSN 1810-634X.
In the current research investigation a new methodology was developed for the isolation and selection of microorganisms that degrade limonin. The experimental stage was done in Marino Tabusso Microbiology Laboratory at La Molina National Agrarian University. The microorganisms were isolated from orange peelings mixed with humid soil, polluted with hydrocarbons and compost containing citric remains. A modified saline media containing additional limonin was used (120 µg mL-1 ), pH 6,0. The selection procedure was done in three stages, where limonin was used in different concentrations and where in the third stage a biochemical characterization was done in the resulting strains. The first selection allowed us to obtain 48 potencially degradating microorganisms of limonin. In the second selection 11 strains were obtained that appeared as the ones that degraded the triterpenoid the most. In the third selection the strains LMT-59 and LMT-69 were the ones that had the highest percentage of limonin degradation and the ones that had the best characteristics in the way they used carbon sources: glucose(-), lactose(-) and citrate(+). However, the strains LMT-47 and LMT-53 were the ones that had the highest percentages of degradation, 89,64% and 88,89%, respectively. The used methodology was cheap and practical for the isolation of limonin type terpenoid degradating microorganisms.
