The self-esteem is considered one of the element-key for the human development, because it possesses narrows relationship with a group of fundamental aspects for an individual's life. Believing in that, the present research seeks to present a relationship among the teaching in Chemistry and the self-esteem in the teacher's initial formation from the public net of Cuiabá, Mato Grosso. The research was accomplished through interviews semi-structured with teachers from the public high school and with last semesters students of the Degree in Chemistry. Among other, the results demonstrate in a general way that the teachers present indications of a low self-esteem, although they are not recognized in that way. In relation of undergraduate students, in spite of the teaching profession lot of times present to them as depreciated and little attractive financially, this study demonstrated that these are not factors for the decrease of the self-esteem, being internal factors related to the degree course the largest causes of that lowers self-esteem.
