Resumen

SANCHEZ LOPEZ, Nathalie A.; VALDERRAMA NEGRON, Ana C.  y  LUYO CAYCHO, Clemente A.. Preliminary studies on the loaded and controlled release of copper-metronidazole complex from chitosan microparticles crosslinked with tripolyphosphate. Rev. Soc. Quím. Perú [online]. 2011, vol.77, n.1, pp.86-94. ISSN 1810-634X.

Chitosan microparticles have potential applications as drug delivery systems, because they have an excellent mucoadhesive effect and also simultaneously enhance the permeability through biological surfaces. In this study chitosan microparticles were crosslinked with tripolyphosphate (TPP) by ionic crosslinking. The lattice work was performed at different concentrations of TPP 1%, 5% and 10% and each concentration was evaluated in three different conditions: FGS(pH=1,2), FIS(pH=6,8) and PBS(pH=8,6). The morphology of TPP-chitosan microparticles were examined by SEM. When the pH and TPP concentration decreases, the microparticles present a spherical shape and smooth surface. The performance of the release of copper-metronidazole (complex with biological activity) was affected by the preparation process of the microparticles. Chitosan microparticles prepared with low pH and high concentration of TPP produced a slow release of the complex indicating that the TPP- chitosan is a good matrix for the release of the copper-metronidazole complex.
