Abstract

BHUSHAN TEWARI, Brij. Studies on mercury (ii), nickel (ii) and lead (ii) biologically important binary complexes with α-aminobutyric acid in solution. Rev. Soc. Quím. Perú [online]. 2011, vol.77, n.2, pp.144-151. ISSN 1810-634X.

Complexation reactions of α-aminobutyric acid with mercury (II), nickel (II) and lead (II) have been studied in solution phase using a paper ionophoretic technique. This method is based on movement of a spot of metal ion in an electric field at various pHs of background electrolyte. A plot of pH versus mobility was used to obtain information for binary complexes and to calculate its stability constants. The stability constants of the ML+ and ML binary complexes of metal(II) α-aminobutyric acid have been found to be (8.59 ± 0.01; 6.93 ± 0.05), (6.83 ± 0.03; 5.38 ± 0.07) and (4.42 ± 0.02; 2.72 ± 0.03) (logarithm stability constant values) for the mercury (II), nickel (II) and lead (II) complexes, respectively at ionic strength 0.1 M (HClO4) and a temperature of 35° C.

Keywords : Ionophoretic technique; mercury (II) complexes; nickel (II) complexes; lead (II) complexes; -aminobutyric acid; stability constant.
