Abstract

CORZO LUCIONI, Alberto. Kinetic study of photocatalytic degradation of rhodamine B oxidative and sunlight with ZnO. Rev. Soc. Quím. Perú [online]. 2011, vol.77, n.4, pp.267-274. ISSN 1810-634X.

This work, photoinduced degradation of the dye rhodamine B has been studied with the photocatalyst zinc oxide (ZnO) and using solar light as photon radiation source, with constant stirring in open systems exposed to air.The decrease in the concentration of the dye shows a kinetic reaction pseudo-first order. Tracking the course of the reaction has been studied with a digital photocolorimeter. There is a limit on the concentration of rhodamine B, as well as the concentration of ZnO, so as not to alter or modify the value of the apparent constant. Speed above the limit concentrations cause effects other than those usually studied in chemical kinetics. The concentrations of dye and photocatalyst best for a successful study is 20 mg/L and 0,3 g/100 mL, respectively. The results show that the photocatalytic degradation is an effective technique for removal of water from dyes in textiles, obtaining a value of the apparent constant rate of degradation of the dye rhodamine B in 0,1 min-1.

Keywords : Rodamin B; photocatalyst; zinc oxide; kinetic constant.
