Abstract

This paper describes the incidence of fatty acids in different tissues of nine species of Araceae: Anthurium sellowianum, Caladium bicolor, Dracontium spruceanum, Monstera adamsonii, Philodendron appendiculatum, P. cordatum, P. loefgrenii, Philodendron sp and Xanthosoma maximilianii; the hexane extracts were initially transesterified and subsequently analyzed by the system gas chromatograph-mass spectrometer, yielded palmitic, linoleic, oleic and stearic acids as major constituents in the different tissues of the species studied. Also is reported comparison among leaves, roots and tubers of different species and the occurrence of these acids in each tissues of the nine Araceae species.
