Abstract
LAVADO MEZA, Carmencita; SUN KOU, María del Rosario and RECUAY ARANA, Nidia. Chromium (VI) adsorption with activated carbons prepared from wood chips of eucaliytus by chemical activation. Rev. Soc. Quím. Perú [online]. 2012, vol.78, n.1, pp.14-26. ISSN 1810-634X.
Two types of activated carbons from chips of eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus Labill) were prepared by chemical activation using potassium hydroxide (KOH) and phosphoric acid (H3PO4) as activating agents. These materials were prepared with an impregnation ratio of 1,0 g/gca, carbonization temperature of 600°C with a N flow of 100 cm3/min. Activated carbons were characterized by FTIR, N2 adsorption at 77 K and measurement of surface acid groups. We evaluated the adsorption capacity of Cr (VI) in aqueous solutions and in the process we also analyzed the influence of the initial concentration and pH of the solution. The kinetic results were adjusted better to the pseudo second order model and the results of the isotherms were correlated better with the Langmuir model, indicating that the adsorption is carried out in homogeneous energetically active centers. The best results were obtained with activated carbon P1/600 with an adsorption capacity of 75,2 mg /g at pH= 2.
