Resumen

CORDOVA BRAVO, Hansel Miguel et al. Influencia del uso de acomplejantes en el baño de curtido sobre la calidad final del cuero. Rev. Soc. Quím. Perú [online]. 2013, vol.79, n.4, pp.388-397. ISSN 1810-634X.

The tanning industry discards large amounts of sludge with chromium (III), wich impacts in the environmental. Chromium salts are most commonly used chemicals in tanning; however, approximately 20 to 40% chromium is lost in the sludge. The main objective of this study is to reduce the chrome emission to the environment from tanning process by using basification and complexing of chromium, also obtain a final product that comply with the minimum requirements for wet blue leather NBR 13525:2005. The leather quality was established by the percentage in leather of: chromium oxide, dermal substance, dichloromethane solubility, pH and the boiling test. It was determined that the use of complexing agents and basifying increases the absorption capacity of the chromium in the leather from 58.5 to 98.1%; the quality of final wet blue leather is according to the requirements established for this kind of material. Also, the use of these products reduces the chromium salt requirement from 8 to 5% and decrease the total chromium in the effluent from 2000 to 100 mg/L, which means that the cost to treat the residual water will be much lower.
