Abstract

SOUZA, Ladyane  and  BIROLI, Flávia. Violence against women in politics: typology and body-territory in the experience of Brazilian progressive federal deputies. Elecciones [online]. 2023, vol.22, n.26, pp.19-52.  Epub Dec 14, 2023. ISSN 1994-5272.  http://dx.doi.org/10.53557/elecciones.2023.v22n26.01.

The article aims to discuss the typology proposed to analyze and legislate on violence against women (VAW). We start by reviewing the existing literature, taking into account the legistlation adopted in Brazil in 2021. Subsequently, we examine data collected from in-depth interviews applied to Brazilian female politicials, who served as federal deputies between 2019 and 2022. We decided to listen to those women with progressive perspectives, who were part of the first Frente Parlamentario Feminista y Antirracista (Feminist and Anti-Racist Parliamentary Front) of the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies, to verify the types of violence they denounced. The main finding is the indication of territorial violence experienced by the interviewees. These were analyzed alongside with studies from Latin American feminist intellectuals, who propose the notion of bodies-territory to address the violence that women suffer in the region. In conclusion, we highlight the importance of considering types of violence in the light of concrete and localized experiences.
