In 1924, Elvira García y García published a book which was meant to be essential in the history of women in Peru: The Peruvian Woman through the centuries historical reviews of studies and comments, an astonishingly detailed and accurate selection of more than 300 biographies compiled in two volumes. This article focuses on some of these biographies, enriched with reviews that García y García published in well-known and reputed newspapers. Such biographies represent a reflection of the times lived by the first professionals of fine arts in Peru
