VAZQUEZ, Jacinto  e  LOLI, Oscar. Compost and vermicompost as amendments in the recovery of a soil degraded by the management of Gypsphila paniculata. Scientia Agropecuaria [online]. 2018, vol.9, n.1, pp.43-52. ISSN 2077-9917.  http://dx.doi.org/10.17268/sci.agropecu.2018.01.05.

Due to the positive effect of the employment of organic amendments on agricultural production, this is on the rise. The present study evaluated the effect of incorporating vermicompost compared with compost, common origin, prepared on the basis of waste fr om pruning of garden and cow dung, in the properties of a soil of Ecuador, exploited for eighteen years with monoculture of Gypsophila (Gypsophila paniculata). It was made in the greenhouse, using pots with 1.5 kg of soil, adding doses 0,25%, 0,50%, 1,00%, 2,00% of amendment, to plant a plant of Gypsophila as biological indicator for three harvest cycles, in design complete random (DCA), with nine treatments and four replications. The characterization of amendments, allowed to observe, vermicompost presented, lower pH, lower salinity, lower sodium concentration and higher retained moisture. The results indicate that treatment compost 0.50% in crop 1 and 2, attained greater height and dry weight of stem, while treatment 0.50% vermicompost was better in harvest 3. Finished 1 and 3 crops were analyzed substrates, compared with the initial characteristics, indicate that, the amendments reduce the density and increase the content of soil, as well as a reduction in the pH
