This article analyzes the life history of female inmates in a therapeutic community in the region of Biobio, Chile. In particular, it deepens on individual and family women life cycle, corresponding to one of the specific objectives of the research. The study is qualitative and takes the Social constructionism of Gergen as an epistemological approach. The strategy was the story of life, built from oral history. The main findings suggest that drug use began in adolescence as a result of a male model consumption; the drug-taking behavior emerges as a mechanism for coping with traumatic situations of individual or family life cycle. Women also reveal externalizing speeches and strongly influenced by gender opposed in explaining of their consumption
