ARPI MAYTA, Roberto  y  ARPI QUILCA, Luis. Inequality of labor income and educational level between ethnic groups in Peru. Comuni@cción [online]. 2018, vol.9, n.1, pp.56-67. ISSN 2219-7168.

ABSTRACT The aim of study is to analyze and explain if inequality of labor income between ethnic groups is due to difference in educational level achieved by participants in Peruvian labor market, or it could be attributable to discriminatory practices. Using statistical information from National Household Survey produced by National Institute of Statistics and Informatics and decomposing using the Blinder-Oaxaca method (1973), it is obtained that difference in educational levels reached, work experience and probability of being part of the labor market between ethnic groups is closely related to continuity of difference in labor income (approximately 50%) in relation to non-indigenous people. The explanatory scope by observable characteristics, mainly, difference in the educational level, increased from 54% in 2006 to 77% in 2016; meanwhile, influence of unobservable characteristics on access to Peruvian labor market decreased from 46% to 23% between years of analysis. It is concluded that the income inequality of ethnic groups, between 2006 and 2016, remains unchanged, and there is also a tendency for indigenous Peruvians to decrease over time
