Abstract
AYALA BEAS, Sebastian Rolando. Effect of the Qali Warma school feeding program on learning achievements in Peru. Comuni@cción [online]. 2022, vol.13, n.1, pp.29-41. Epub Mar 24, 2022. ISSN 2219-7168. http://dx.doi.org/10.33595/2226-1478.13.1.669.
During the last editions of the PISA evaluation, Peru has shown a low performance and there have been significant gaps with countries of similar development. For this reason, the objective of this research is to determine the effect of school feeding on learning achievements. Using an education production function and with data from the 24 departments of Peru for the period 2013-2019, two econometric models of panel data with temporary fixed effects are estimated. The results reveal that school feeding has not significant effect on learning achievements in reading or mathematics. Among the possible causes of this finding are the problems related to the efficiency and effectiveness of the school feeding program. In turn, other variables that positively explain learning achievements are school infrastructure, access to information and communication technologies and the level of education of the family. In contrast, the variables class size and family size have a negative effect. In this way, these results contribute to the discussion and understanding of the relationship between school feeding and learning achievements.
