The family as a social unit is a topic of interest in the field of public health, being this environment where the health conditions of each of its members occur. The objective of the present study was to know the relationship between family functionality and risk behaviors in health sciences students. Basic research with a non-experimental design carried out in a sample of 236 students from the professional schools of nursing and obstetrics of the Santiago Antúnez de Mayolo National University. The data was collected with the family Apgar and a questionnaire on risk behaviors, the same that were applied online. The results report a significant correlation between the family functionality variables and risk behaviors in health sciences students (bilateral p= 0.01). In addition, 48.3% started sexual relations after 15 years of age, 22.9% do not use protection in sexual relations, 54.7% did not adapt to university life, 30.1% failed more than 2 subjects, 42.8% eat fast food and 40.7% feel lonely. It is concluded that there is a significant relationship between family functionality and risk behaviors in health sciences students.
