Abstract

ALDANA CURAY, Karla Lucero et al. Analysis of beneficiaries of the Pension 65 program and its effect on food in the northern coast of Peru. Comuni@cción [online]. 2022, vol.13, n.3, pp.179-188.  Epub Sep 30, 2022. ISSN 2219-7168.  http://dx.doi.org/10.33595/2226-1478.13.4.725.

The population of older adults is growing slowly and steadily, and social programs seek to improve the level of well-being of beneficiaries. The objectives were, to identify the number of beneficiaries per household of the Pension 65 program, to determine the socioeconomic characteristics of older adults who are beneficiaries and non-beneficiaries and to evaluate the impact with respect to spending on food consumption. The data came from the National Household Survey for the years 2019 and 2020. We used bivariate methods and fixed effects and double difference models with panel data to evaluate the impact. It is evident that there is more than one beneficiary of the program per household, the beneficiary households have fewer household members, less education level, older age and most of them are women. The impact of the program is positive, the beneficiaries increased their per capita expenditure on food consumption, 33.1% of the economic support they receive is spent on food. It is concluded that the Pension 65 program is an adequate policy that improves the welfare of older adults.
