HUAMANI HUARANCA, Narvy Oshin; HUAMANI HUARANCA, Liz Jackelyn; PINTO DE ALARCON, Jorge Antonio  and  CEDENO MACIAS, Alexa María. ICTs in Public Universities in Three Countries of the Andean Community of Nations during COVID-19. Comuni@cción [online]. 2023, vol.14, n.1, pp.41-54. In the context of COVID-19, the transition from face-to-face to virtual education has faced great challenges, accelerating the implementation of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in university education. The purpose of this research is to explore the role of ICT in the adaptation to virtual education during 2021 and 2022 in students of three public universities in Bolivia, Ecuador and Peru, countries of the Andean Community of Nations - CAN. This research is of non-experimental design, quantitative and qualitative approach, with survey technique, applied to 555 students of the participating universities and 10 in-depth interviews. The results show that ICTs have guaranteed the continuity of higher education in virtual mode, whose process has been gradual and specific to the characteristics of each country, with the most frequent use of applications such as: Zoom in Bolivia, Microsoft Teams in Ecuador and Google Meet in Peru, where the main problem has been related to the need for a good Internet connection as well as the limited skills necessary for the optimal use of these tools. It is concluded that the implementation of ICTs prevented disruption in higher education, favoring interaction between students and teachers, facilitating the process of submitting assignments and evaluations.
