Abstract

CENTENO HERRERA, Bladimiro; PARI PORTILLO, Luz Marina; GABY LIPE IQUIAPAZA, Honoria  and  BERNAL SAIRE, Laura. Methodological evolution in the study of andean oral traditions. Comuni@cción [online]. 2023, vol.14, n.2, pp.148-160.  Epub June 30, 2023. ISSN 2219-7168.  http://dx.doi.org/10.33595/2226-1478.14.2.862.

The study of Andean orality presents several conceptual and procedural limitations in the process of documentation and interpretation of traditional oral corpora. The purpose of this research was to determine the evolution of methodological criteria in the recording and understanding of Andean oral traditions. The methodological approach was qualitative, the design corresponded to the descriptive type and the technique consisted of the documentary analysis of the oral corpora recorded in written form. The results showed that the compilers recorded the oral corpora without conceiving the dynamics of primary orality, under the influence of the written culture and with different levels of discontextualization. This means that the Andean oral corpora were recorded without considering their communicative modality, performative character, formulaic discursive structure, thematic progression between versions and archetypal value of the imaginary components. As a consequence, the process of documentation of oral traditions has evolved from a position that homologizes the oral corpora of primary orality with contemporary written texts to a certain contextualization, identification of the communicative modality and sociocultural background.
