GUTIERREZ ATALA, Fernando; VALDES MUNOZ, Matías e CAAMANO FUENTES, Sofía. Verification filters and fight to disinformation: comparative study of journalistic coverage in traditional, independent and alternative media in the Biobío Region (Chile). Comuni@cción [online]. 2023, vol.14, n.4, pp.312-323. Epub 26-Dez-2023. ISSN 2219-7168. http://dx.doi.org/10.33595/2226-1478.14.4.930.
The new media landscape shows that traditional media are no longer the main source of information for users, who have acquired a new role in which they demand to be an active subject. The lack of control and the speed of the digital environment has prevented the correct checking of content, giving rise to the so-called fakes. In this context, this qualitative study comparatively studied the verification filters used by traditional, independent and alternative media in the Bío Bío Region, Chile. Through semi-structured interviews with journalists from 10 media outlets, it was observed that traditional and independent media have not gone deeper into verification techniques, even though they continue to offer guarantees of news quality, since their work guidelines include the contrast and analysis of data. Meanwhile, alternative media (peripheral, extra-systemic) do not have prior validation processes, being guided purely by what they receive from users in social networks, which influences the quality of the product offered and the spread of misinformation.
