Abstract
NARANJO CACERES, María Mónica; LAZO PORRAS, María de los Ángeles; FLORES NORIEGA, Mónica and SAONA UGARTE, Luis Arturo Pedro. Medical treatment of ectopic pregnancy: experience at Cayetano Heredia Hospital 2007 - 2008. Rev Per Ginecol obstet. [online]. 2013, vol.59, n.1, pp.49-53. ISSN 2304-5132.
Objectives: To determine diagnosis, management and evolution of patients who had medical treatment for ectopic pregnancy in a general hospital. Design: Descriptive, observational, retrospective series of cases study. Setting: Gynecology and Obstetrics Service, Hospital Nacional Cayetano Heredia, Lima, Peru. Participants: Women with ectopic pregnancy. Interventions: From 106 cases of ectopic pregnancies attended, five received medical treatment and data could be obtained from only four cases. Main outcome measures: Outcome of ectopic pregnancies with medical treatment. Results: Only one case corresponded to a non-complicated ectopic pregnancy that had good evolution with medical treatment. The other three cases did not meet criteria for medical treatment, because of size, beta human chorionic gonadotropin levels or hemoperitoneum. Conclusions: Ectopic pregnancy in our country is still a gynecological emergency because of complications on arrival, thus not eligible for medical treatment.
