Abstract
TAVARA OROZCO, Luis. Conscientious objection. Rev. peru. ginecol. obstet. [online]. 2017, vol.63, n.4, pp.581-590. ISSN 2304-5132.
The basis of conscientious objection is the freedom of conscience. It is prerogative of the medical professional to stand against the realization of a legally or administratively decreed procedure or intervention as it threatens his philosophical or religious beliefs. The conscientious objection does not take place freely. It must respect the bioethical principles and the rights of the persons. When it is used inadequately it may threaten bioethical principles mainly autonomy and non-maleficence. It may threaten the life and health of patients and may conduce to legal problems to doctors and to the institutions where they work.
