Abstract

PEREDA-GARAY, José. The problem of loss of chromosome Y: Literature review. Rev. peru. ginecol. obstet. [online]. 2019, vol.65, n.4, pp.461-468. ISSN 2304-5132.  http://dx.doi.org/10.31403/rpgo.v65i2205.

We review the different mechanisms for loss of chromosome Y, including environmental factors that cause mosaicism. The different pathological processes due to its loss, including neoplasms, autoimmune and neurodegenerative diseases, are summarized. A subgroup of newborns with numerical chromosome abnormalities (45 X /46 XY) presents a characteristic phenotype, so it should be included as a variant of congenital loss of chromosome Y.

Keywords : Chromosome; Y; Aneuploidies; Monosomies.
