We assessed 413 professors, who were selected by non-probabilistic methods, with Maslach Burnout Inventory, reporting adequate levels of reliability for the sample and three factors obtained by confirmatory factor analysis, that confirm the Maslach and Jackson (1981) theory. We found significant differences according to sex, marital status and professors’ level teaching, with higher punctuations in exhaustion for female school teachers and moderate levels of cynicism for university professors, who obtained negative correlations between number of children and burnout syndrome.
