LOO-VALVERDE, María et al. Echocardiographic Monitoring of Anatomical Changes in the Myocardium of Pediatric Patients with a Diagnosis of Non-Compaction Cardiomyopathy. 2017 - 2021. Rev. Fac. Med. Hum. [online]. 2024, vol.24, n.4, pp.138-144. Epub 31-Oct-2024. ISSN 1814-5469. http://dx.doi.org/10.25176/rfmh.v24i4.6688.
Objective:
To determine the anatomical changes assessed by echocardiography in pediatric patients with a diagnosis of non-compaction cardiomyopathy (NCM) at the Hospital Nacional Edgardo Rebagliati Martins, 2017-2021.
Methods:
Retrospective cohort study. The population studied were patients hospitalized in the Specialized Pediatrics Service, with an echocardiographic diagnosis of NCM confirmed according to Jenni criteria, the data were recorded in cm, the measurements of the non-compacted myocardium (NC) represented by the trabeculae and the compacted myocardium (C) calculated the ratio of the two: NC/C.
Results:
A total of 7 patients with an echocardiographic diagnosis of NCM were analyzed, they were diagnosed in the first year of life: 4 patients (57.14%) in the neonatal stage and 3 patients (42.85%) in the infant age; of the patients: 6 had heart failure, 3 had arrhythmias, 3 had associated heart disease and 2 had biventricular involvement. Three patients died (42.8%). Anatomical changes were observed during the follow-up of the three patients who remained in the study. The NC/C ratio remained high in only one patient, ejection fraction (EF) improved in all patients, and the number of trabeculae decreased in only one patient.
Conclusions:
Anatomical changes in patients diagnosed with non-compaction cardiomyopathy may evolve into myocardial maturation and improved ventricular function.
