Abstract

CORDOVA-CHAVEZ, Lucia  and  SANTA MARIA-DAVILA, Edward. Company displacement plans: a proposal to improve the mobility of the construction sector in the metropolitan area of Lima and Callao. Tecnia [online]. 2021, vol.31, n.2, pp.11-21.  Epub June 01, 2021. ISSN 0375-7765.  http://dx.doi.org/10.21754/tecnia.v21i2.1037.

The objective of this research is to analyze the characteristics and behaviors of the mobility to work of a group of workers in the construction sector in the Metropolitan Area of Lima and Callao, due to the fact that in Peru there are limited measures adopted to manage the demand for travel to work and there is no certain evidence of the impact of these measures. For this reason, based on the diagnosis carried out in this study, the intention is to propose general guidelines for the implementation of Company Displacement Plans (PDE) as a public policy to manage travel demand. For this purpose, a case study was carried out with 168 workers distributed in 31 public and private organizations. Surveys and interviews were used as tools to collect quantitative and qualitative information on mobility. The processing of the information made it possible to characterize the sample and determine the travel rate, which is equivalent to 3.6 trips/day (including all modes of transport and reasons for travel), of which an average of 1.3 trips/day are for work purposes and 1.4 trips/day are preferably by public transport. Based on this and other land use and transportation characteristics of workers, a set of strategies to be implemented by organizations to encourage sustainable travel was proposed, such as the installation of showers and cycle parking at work to encourage the use of bicycles, financial incentives for the use of public transport and mobile applications to practice carpooling among co-workers to optimize travel and in part reduce the number of trips.

Keywords : Company displacement plan; travel demand management; travel rate; modal choice; construction sector.
