Abstract

BUSTOS-GISBERT, Eugenio. Orality, feigned orality and the expression of (dis)politeness: the system of pronominal address in Gonzalo de Berceo. Leng. Soc. [online]. 2023, vol.22, n.1, pp.381-404.  Epub May 12, 2023. ISSN 1729-9721.  http://dx.doi.org/10.15381/lengsoc.v22i1.24138.

This paper analyzes the interaction between politeness and orality in Berceo’s work, using an example of difficult interpretation in Vida de Santo Domingo de Silos. The system of pronominal treatment in Berceo’s work is studied from a sociopragmatic perspective and relevant conclusions are reached about its importance for the historical study of our language.

Keywords : history of the spanish language; historical sociopragmatics; orality; address forms; Gonzalo de Berceo.
