Abstract

Salpichroa weigendii (Solanaceae), a new species from Huanuco Region, Peru, is described and illustrated in detail. S. weigendii S. Leiva, Jara & Barboza is characterized by having glabrous corolla externally and internally, corolla limb reflex, androecium included, staminal filaments flattened, glabrous, anthers whitish, nectariferous disc red, berries intense purple or black when mature, seeds black, 16-20 per berry, fructiferous calyx covers almost the quarter basal of the berry, style 9-9.5 mm long, shrub 2-2.5 m of length. In addition to the description, we present the respective illustration, we discuss its relations with an allied species and we include data about ethnobotany, geographic distribution, ecology, phenology, current status and uses of the species.
