Caesalpinia spinosa (Feuillée ex Molina) Kuntze (Fabaceae) "taya" is highly valued for its active principles and medicinal properties. This has caused a worldwide increase in its production interest, as the industrial sector demands tannic acid, which is used as food clarifying agent, in addition to its uses in the paper, pharmaceutical and chemical industry. With this reality, there is the intention to massify the cultivation of C. spinosa, for which propagation using botanical seed is a good alternative. Given the need to obtain vigorous and uniform plants, the objective was to determine the effect of osmotic conditioning of seeds of C. spinosa "taya". For this, seeds were selected, which were transported to the Biotechnology Laboratory of the Potato and Andean Crops Institute, where the scarification was carried out, and then subjected to osmo-conditioning, according to the treatments: T1: 0 h; T2: 24 h; T3: 48 h; T4: 72 h and T5: 96 h. Finally, they dried for a period of seven days at room temperature, then they were placed for germination in Petri dishes. Statistically significant differences were found, with T2 and T5 showing greater germinative power, speed and uniformity of germination and germinative vigor. It is concluded that the osmotic conditioning improves the germination of C. spinosa, which is evident in T2 that is the recommended treatment to be used for future researches.
