Abstract

Calceolaria salpoana (Calceolariaceae), a new species from northern Peru, is described and illustrated in detail. Calceolaria salpoana S. Leiva, E. Rodr. & Rimarachín belongs to the Micranthera Pennell section, it grows on the road between Ragache mountain and Cogon, Salpo District, province of Otuzco, region of La Libertad, Peru, at 8º00’34.5" S and 78º36’18.6" W, 3536 m of elevation. It can be recognized because it presents 1-2 flowers in the apex of stems, calyx with lobes surrounded by a dense covering of transparent simple glandular hairs externally, corolla without red stains internally, anthers oblong descending, staminal filaments creamy white 6-7 mm long, style 6-7 mm long, herbs (10-) 15-18 (-25) cm tall. Additionally, the description is accompanied by the corresponding drawings and photographs; we discuss its relations with other allied species and include data of its geographic distribution, ecology, phenology, current status, common name and uses of the species.
