LEIVA GONZALEZ, Segundo and TANTALEAN EVANGELISTA, Flor. Diversity of genus Browallia (Solanaceae) in Salpo, La Libertad Region, and a new taxon from Northern Peru. Arnaldoa [online]. 2018, vol.25, n.1, pp.9-40. ISSN 1815-8242. http://dx.doi.org/http://doi.org/10.22497/arnaldoa.251.25101.
We describe and illustrate the species of the genus Browallia (Solanaceae) in Salpo, La Libertad Region, and a new taxon from northern Peru. We report three species and all of them are Peruvian: B. albiantha, B. dilloniana & B. salpoana. We propose and describe a new taxon Browallia plazapampae S. Leiva & Tantalean, found near Plazapampa (Trujillo-Otuzco road km 53½-54), Salpo District, province of Otuzco, región of La Libertad, Peru, between 7º57´32.4-7º59´43.1" S and 78º38´31.3-78º40´25.2" W, and between 1635-2110 m of elevation. It is characterized mainly by its flowers arranged in racemes, the indument of its vegetative and floral organs, style included, corolla intense purple externally, light purple internally, 25-28 mm (between the larger lobe and the two inferior lobes) and (25-) 29-30 mm (between the two lateral lobes) of limb diameter at antesis, capsule obconial erect, surrounded by a covering of rigid transparent eglandular hairs in the distal half, 7-7.2 mm long and 6.8-7 mm of diameter, 101-104 (-159) seeds per capsule. We include data of geographic distribution, ecology, phenology, current status and relations with other similar species. For each species, we present photographs and drawings, whose credits belong to the authors of this work.
