HUANACO, Janet Laura; MONTOYA TERREROS, Haydee; CASTELLANOS SANCHEZ, Pedro Luis  e  QUIROZ BARRAZA, Renzo Armando. Phytoplankton diversity assessment of La Viuda Lagoon (Lima, Peru) in August-November 2016. Arnaldoa [online]. 2018, vol.25, n.3, pp.1027-1040. ISSN 1815-8242.  http://dx.doi.org/10.22497/arnaldoa.253.25314.

Peru is a country with numerous high-Andean lagoons. La Viuda Lagoon located in Lima (4500 m a.s.l.) is one of them. The phytoplankton sampling was executed in August (3 stations) and November (7 stations). The quality of water was evaluated using physicochemical parameters (temperature, conductivity, pH, salinity, phosphate, nitrate, nitrogen, phosphorus, total metals and hardness); the phytoplankton counting was perfomed by the Lackey method (cel/mL); abundance (%) and the alpha diversity indexes (richness, diversity, dominance and evenness) were calculated. In August (winter), the Bacillariophyta division predominated in E-01 (75.41 %) and the Chlorophyta division in E-02 (66.52 %) and E-03 (63.19 %); in November (spring) the Bacillariophyta division predominated in E-01 (64.27 %) and E-02 (55.30 %), while in the others stations the Chlorophyta division was the most abundant. The alpha diversity for August indicates us that there is a greater diversity of species in the E-01 with respect to the others seasons, there isn´t dominance. In November, there is higher diversity of species in the E-08, the station with higher dominance was E-06 in which Oocystis lacustris Chodat predominated with 69.45 %. This lagoon has cold waters, acid pH, very low salinity, low conductivity, moderate hardness, reduced nitrate and phosphate, and among the metals, calcium, silica and magnesium were the most abundant. The present work provides an investigation of the phytoplanktonic diversity and water quality of La Viuda Lagoon because there is no background of studies of this body of water.
