Abstract

RODRIGUEZ RODRIGUEZ, Eric F.; LEIVA GONZALEZ, Segundo  and  CAMPOS DE LA CRUZ, José R.. Deprea longicalyx (Solanaceae), a new species critically endangered in the Andean jungle of the province of San Ignacio, región of Cajamarca, Peru. Arnaldoa [online]. 2019, vol.26, n.1, pp.27-42. Deprea longicalyx E. Rodr., S. Leiva & J. Campos (Solanaceae), a new species that inhabits in the Andean jungle located northeast of the province of San Ignacio, region of Cajamarca, Peru, is described, illustrated and explained. This new taxon is found on the eastern slopes of the Huarango Cordillera, Nuevo Mundo locality, Huarango District, between 1500 and 2300 m of altitude. It is recognized for having 1-5(-7) flowers per node, small flowers (corolla 5.5-6 mm of diameter), flower pedicel short (3-5 mm long), calyx with 5 equal teeth, anthers without incipient apical mucro, staminal filaments heterodynamous, style with the same lenght than the stamens or shorter and included (1.5-2 mm), fruits erect or suberect, berry conical and greenish when ripe, fructiferous calyx 25-30 mm long and 15-16 mm of diameter, lenght of the fructiferous calyx apex is about half of the total lenght, fructiferous calyx surrounds tightly the berry in all its lenght, 44-79 seeds per berry, 16-22 sclerosomes per berry, leaves geminate, shrubs or trees (1.8-)3-6 m tall. We include information of geographic distribution and ecology, phenology, conservation status, etymology and taxonomic discussion with other similar species, as well as illustration of habitat and habit. The new entity is seriouslly affected by fragmentation, land use change and irreversible loss of habitat; reflected by the decrease of occupied land, extension of presence and number of populations; due to anthropic action such as logging, burning of vegetation and overgrazing. Therefore, it is preliminarily considered critically endangered (CR)
