Passiflora salpoense S. Leiva & Tantalean (Passifloraceae), a new species from northern Peru, is validated, described and illustrated in detail. Passiflora salpoense is found in Shitahuara (north of Salpo), Salpo District, province of Otuzco, region of La Libertad, Peru, between 7o59’50.4"-7º 59’51.5" S and 78o36’46.0"-78º 36’44.6"W, between 3450-3490 m above sea level. It presents solitary zygomorphic flowers per node, hypanthium infundibuliform, green on the adaxial surface, reddish on the distal half, ciliate in all its extension externally, sepals 5, oblong, yellow to reddish externally and internally, stamens homodynamous, zygomorphic, ovary oblong, ciliate, berry globose, sericeous, reeds 1,5-2 (-3) m long, leaves sericeous. In addition to the description, we present the corresponding illustration, discuss its relationship with other similar species and include information about ethnobotany, geographic range and ecology, phenology, conservation status and uses of the species
