Chili pepper (Capsicum annum L.) is a crop of great importance in Peru, because the country is the second largest exporter worldwide. Currently it is reported a decrease in its yield, related to diseases caused by fungi such as Fusarium spp., Phytophthora capsici and Rhizoctonia solani; the genus Fusarium is the one that occurs most frequently. Taking into account the importance of the cultivation of chili pepper in the country, this work aims to isolate and morphologically identify Fusarium oxysporum from the roots of chili pepper from the producing areas of the district of Barranca. Samples of chili with symptoms of wilting and root rot were collected from the areas of Santa Elena and Vinto in the district of Barranca. The samples were cut transversally 1 cm long and were disinfected superficially, then they were planted in PDA medium. The mycelia presented were isolated for their purification in flasks with PDA medium and then transferred to Petri dishes with PDA medium to observe the pigmentation of the colony and the growth rate; while in SNA and CLA media to observe microconidia, macroconidia and chlamydospores. We achieved the isolation and morphological identification of 22 isolates of F. oxysporum from the roots of chili from the producing areas of the district of Barranca, representing 61.11 % of the isolates that presented characteristics of the genus Fusarium, which are related to the wilting and death of these crops, which leads to great economic losses.
