Abstract

During the low rainfall season and the non-growth of forage pastures, the forage tree and shrub species constitute food alternatives in the livestock diet, contributing to the sustainability of the livestock system in the province of Chota. In this sense, it was proposed to study and evaluate the chemical composition of Clusia pseudomangle (Clusiaceae) “lalush” and Delostoma integrifolium (Bignoniaceae) “babilla” and their food preference including Myrcianthes sp. for beef cattle. The chemical composition was carried out at the Universidad Nacional Agraria La Molina, using the techniques proposed by the Association of Official Agricultural Chemists (AOAC) and ANKOM Technology, AOAC (2005) for total protein, grease or ether extract and Filter Bag Technology (FBT) to determine acid detergent fiber, neutral detergent fiber and acid detergent lignin. The food preference was carried out in the “Bosque El Chuspimayo - Los Lanches” sector, ChotaCajamarca, using a multiple selection test for nine days over a period of 15 minutes. At the end of the test, the amount of forage consumed was evaluated. The chemical evaluation indicates acceptable nutritional contents for both analyzed species, D. integrifolium has a higher content of total protein (15.44%), acid detergent fiber (32.60%), neutral detergent fiber (38.40%) and acid detergent lignin (16.67%). D. integrifolium has a higher food preference as forage making its use promising in livestock farming.
