Abstract

ROCA GUZMAN, Arnold Alexis  and  GUERRERO PADILLA, Ana Marlene. Cooper cytotoxic effect on Allium cepa (Amaryllidaceae). Arnaldoa [online]. 2021, vol.28, n.3, pp.727-746.  Epub Dec 31, 2021. ISSN 1815-8242.  http://dx.doi.org/10.22497/arnaldoa.283.28315.

This research work aimed to evaluate cooper cytotoxic effect on Allium cepa L. (Amaryllidaceae) under laboratory conditions. The methodology used was according to the Allium Test, selecting 25 A. cepa bulbs subjected to 500, 600, 700 and 800 mg / ml of cooper. The secondary roots apices were selected and proceeding to respective cut and staining with acetic orcein HCl 1N. Slides assembly and sealing was carried out with carbolic gelatine for its observation under a microscope at 40x and 100x to determine cooper cytotoxic effect, mitotic percentage index and phase index in meristematic cells. Copper cytotoxic effect on Allium cepa L. at different concentrations had a higher percentage in treatment 4. Mitotic index in meristematic cells was 30.95% at treatment 1, 32.45% at treatment 2, 33.50% at treatment 3 and 33.80% at treatment 4. Results showed there are significant differences between treatments.

Keywords : Allium cepa; cytotoxity; cooper; chromosomal abnormalities.
