Abstract

RODRIGUEZ RODRIGUEZ, Eric F. et al. Notes on the floristic elements and conservation status of four little-known coastal wetlands in the Department of La Libertad, Peru. Arnaldoa [online]. 2022, vol.29, n.1, pp.49-70. ISSN 1815-8242.  http://dx.doi.org/10.22497/arnaldoa.291.29103.

A study of the floristic elements and conservation status of four little-known coastal wetlands in the Department of La Libertad, Peru was carried out during irregular periodic visits between 2015 and 2021. The sites involved were: 1) Laguna San José: 08°27´23.2” S - 78°44´ 45.8”W, 82 m.a.s.l.; Province Viru; 2) Las Gaviotas Wetlands: 08°29’42.3”S - 78°51’36.5”W, 9-10 m.a.s.l.; Province Viru; 3) Salaverry Wetland: 08°14’48.27’’S - 78°58’03.70’’W, 10 m.a.s.l.; Province Trujillo; 4) Mancoche Wetland: 07°13´01.24”S 79°25´31.09”W, 120 m.a.s.l.; Province Chepen. All the wetlands present similar flora with a predominance of Typha angustifolia L. “tifa”, “enea” (Typhaceae) and Cyperaceae associated with bird species such as Gallinula galeata “moorhen”, Ardea alba “great white heron”, Egretta thula “little white heron”, Phleocryptes melanops “junquero”, and Tachuris rubrigastra “seven colors of the totora”. Wetlands, as fragile ecosystems, are in a state of threat because they are desiccated for land trafficking and agriculture; margins are covered with garbage and demolition waste, as is the case for the Mancoche wetland. For these reasons, it is urgent to comply with the actions established in the national and regional strategies for the conservation of wetlands and to declare it as a Regional Conservation Zone.

Keywords : flora; coastal wetlands; Regional Conservation Zone; La Libertad.
