The sexual maturity of Oreochromis aureus was investigated and the elaboration of a protocol for use in rural aquaculture in the La Balsa Module in San Ignacio, Cajamarca-Peru. The evaluation of the sexual maturity of the tilapias was carried out in March and April 2022, considering the external and internal phenotypic characteristics of the gonads, the presence of eggs and larvae by mouthbrooding of the breeders, the IGS and the phases of sexual maturity. The maturity protocol was developed with the sexual characteristics and sequence of activities to be used in rural aquaculture. Differences were obtained in terms of males and females in color, shape and sex. In the stock of tilapia available in La Balsa, sizes of 21-30 cm and weights of 222-435 g were for males and 22,5-34,0 cm with weights of 250-674 g in females considered as spawners. partial from 1,0 to 2,5 years. It is concluded that the IGS fluctuated between 0,09 and 3,52% with a predominance of phase IV of sexual maturity, which was 43,75% in March and 62,5% in April.
