Abstract

DIOSES-PUELLES, Jeison; GARCIA-GARCIA, Rosa  and  BERMEJO-REQUENA, Luis A. Types of vegetation cover of the protected natural area “Los Mangroves of Tumbes National Sanctuary”, Tumbes, Peru. Manglar [online]. 2023, vol.20, n.2, pp.177-183.  Epub July 05, 2023. ISSN 1816-7667.  http://dx.doi.org/10.57188/manglar.2023.020.

In the present research, satellite images have been used, which with the appropriate processing have allowed to evaluate the existing vegetation cover in the territorial space of the protected natural area The Mangroves of Tumbes National Sanctuary - Peru and that was verified with a face-to-face tour. It was possible to determine the presence of 7 types of areas inside, 2 without water cover bodies and salty zones - sandbanks; and 5 with vegetation cover such as semi-dense dry forest, dense dry forest, low strip mangrove, middle strip mangrove and high strip mangrove. Mangrove covers occupy most of the interior of the natural area. Likewise, in the mangrove ecosystem the species with the highest value of index of importance (IVI) is the species Rhizophora mangle and in the dry forest ecosystem it is the species Caesalpinia paipai.

Keywords : vegetation cover; satellite images; index of importance value.
