Resumen

JIMENEZ PALACIOS, Ricardo. The perspective of the sociopolitical matrix and its transformations prior to the Chilean protests: a look at northern Chile (2016-2018). Desde el Sur [online]. 2021, vol.13, n.1, e0002. ISSN 2076-2674.  http://dx.doi.org/10.21142/des-1301-2021-0002.

This study addresses the political characteristics of Chilean society during the three years prior to the outbreak of social unrest that began in October 2019. To account for this situation, we have adopted a theoretical and methodological approach. In the theoretical aspect, we have considered the concept of the sociopolitical matrix (MSP, in Spanish), and the de-structuring process that began in the final decades of the 20th century. As a methodological element, we have considered the longitudinal social study of Chile and the evidence for the de-structuring of the MSP during the years prior to the social unrest. Thus, far from being an unforeseeable situation, the outbreak of social unrest was the result of the MSP's deregulation processes and the processes of subjectivation within the neoliberal framework. Finally, through this study we aim to demonstrate that the processes for the de-structuring of the MSP, as well as those of neoliberal subjectivation, must be firmly rooted in a territorial framework, to which end we evidence the particularities of this phenomenon in northern Chile.

Palabras clave : Northern Chile; sociopolitical matrix; social explosion; neoliberal subjectivities.
