Abstract

MORA RAMIREZ, Rafael Félix. Global pandemic, economic and political crisis. Desde el Sur [online]. 2021, vol.13, n.1, e0011. ISSN 2076-2674.  http://dx.doi.org/10.21142/des-1301-2021-0007.

This paper studies the issue of the pandemic and its social, political and economic consequences. Its objective is to analyze the current situation, based upon the compilation and interpretation of philosophical texts. The main contribution of this essay is to criticize the most problematic aspects of capitalism that have come to the fore as a result of this crisis. Thus, it begins by exposing the control currently exerted upon human life. In this scenario, authoritarianism looms, destabilizing all possible democracy. Then, the errors of capitalism are demonstrated, followed by an addressing of the evident conflict between vital and economic values that has resulted. Finally, the consumerism of this form of society is analyzed.

Keywords : Authoritarianism; democracy; capitalism; society; pandemic.
