Abstract
SAMUEL RIVERA, Víctor. Between fools and crazy. José Ignacio Moreno: Political philosophy and debate in the Independence of Peru (1822). Desde el Sur [online]. 2022, vol.14, n.1, e0011. Epub May 26, 2022. ISSN 2076-2674. http://dx.doi.org/10.21142/des-1401-2022-0011.
In the context of the Bicentennial of the Independence of Peru, this text seeks to recover for the memory the work of José Ignacio Moreno, one of the managers of the constituent process that Peru went through from the Protectorate of José de San Martín. In a particular way we are going to focus on his political philosophy, which has been peculiarly neglected in the historiography related to Independence and which arises, precisely, in light of the transition process between the Old Peruvian regime and the consolidation of the republic. In fact, a first objective of this work is to show Moreno as part of the constitutionmaking process that gave rise to the Peruvian Republic as an interlocutor in the public controversy. For this aim we are going to focus our interest on his book Cartas peruanas (1826), a text on political metaphysics written in the constitutional heat of the period of his presence in the political and academic environment of Peru at the beginning of his independent life.
