VEGA LOYOLA, José Javier. Indian slaves in Lima from the perspective of the "Padrón de los indios de Lima en 1613". Desde el Sur [online]. 2022, vol.14, n.2, e0023. Epub 22-Jul-2022. ISSN 2076-2674. http://dx.doi.org/10.21142/des-1402-2022-0023.
In order to draw attention to indigenous slavery in the city of Lima, the Lima Indian Register of 1613 was reviewed, seeking to identify traces that evidence the overt or covert slavery of Indians who lived in the city. Through systematization matrices, the information found was triangulated and contextualized with information from other documentary repositories and historiographical information. It was found that almost all the Indians of the "India de Portugal" had the condition of slaves, more than two thirds of the "Indians of Chile", some "Indians of Japan" and "Indians of China"; and that the description of "war Indians" was used to justify indigenous slavery; and the condition of "servitude" to cover up the de facto enslavement of Indians from various parts of the Andes; moreover, that also some Indians were owners of Indian slaves.
