Abstract

CCASANI CONDO, Miguel Ángel. Peru and the First World War: La Libertad exports from 1917 to 1921. Desde el Sur [online]. 2022, vol.14, n.2, e0025.  Epub July 22, 2022. ISSN 2076-2674.  http://dx.doi.org/10.21142/des-1402-2022-0025.

This seeks to recognize how the strategies that Peru took during the First World War affected northern exports. The city of La Libertad stood out because its export custom linked it directly with the war conflict, generating particularities such as the sugar boom and the Chicama Strike in 1920. It is investigated from the written press, official reports and statistical studies. It is concluded that the First World War affected the estates of La Libertad, improving their commercial relations in the sugar sector, but generating a harmful regional dependence on North America.

Keywords : La Libertad; First World War; export; Estate; economy.
