Abstract

MORENO BACA, María Carina. Performing arts and public space: the city as a stage. Desde el Sur [online]. 2023, vol.15, n.4, e0055.  Epub Oct 30, 2023. ISSN 2076-2674.  http://dx.doi.org/10.21142/e0055.

At a time when the role of the arts in public spaces has been debated, we analyze, based on three scenic experiences that take place at a specific moment in the pandemic, the link with the city, a city «imagined» and «appropriate» that is reconfigured as a space for meeting and accessing culture. During 2021, two performing seasons: «We are free» and «Venzando al diablo» were presented in two parks in different areas of the city such as Miraflores and the Santa Beatriz Urbanization in Cercado de Lima. The third experience involved various interventions taking the Rimac River as a starting point as a large fissure between the Rimac district and the Historic Centre of Lima.
