SEGUEL-ARRIAGADA, Andrés y JIMENEZ-PEREZ, Laura. Configurations of meaning on sexual identity of the academic staff of a University in Southern Chile. Desde el Sur [online]. 2024, vol.16, n.4, e0057. Epub 31-Oct-2024. ISSN 2076-2674. http://dx.doi.org/10.21142/des-1604-2024-0057.
The construction of sexual identity is a dialogic and recursive process that subjects construct and reconstruct throughout their life trajectory. It is composed of gender identity, gender role, biological sex and sexual orientation. The objective of the research focused on describing the configuration of meaning of sexual identity from the active discourse of the academic body of an institution of higher education in the bío-bío region that trains educators. The study was based on an interpretative-qualitative approach and a hermeneutic phenomenological method. A sample of ten participants was used and a semi-structured interview was conducted. The subjects configure active discourses centered on the development of their gender self-concept. The roles and functions they assume require them to respond to community expectations. In conclusion, sexual identity is manifested as a gender self-concept.
