MARQUEZ DUARTE, Fernando David. Indigenous identity usurpation and neoliberal capitalism: The rightwing in México, PAN, and 2024 presidential elections. Desde el Sur [online]. 2024, vol.16, n.4, e0060. Epub 31-Oct-2024. ISSN 2076-2674. http://dx.doi.org/10.21142/des-1604-2024-0060.
This research analyzes the rhetoric of the right-wing in Mexico, led by the National Action Party (PAN), of presenting itself as a «new right» in the figure of presidential candidate Xóchitl Gálvez, as well as its relationship with rightwing phenomena in Latin America such as the imposition of neoliberal capitalism. The case of Mexico contrasts with the right wing in other countries in the region, where PAN (leader of the current right-wing front) has used appropriation instead of an openly racist stance. The methodology of this research is qualitative, with a case study method. The instruments used in this research have been bibliographic and newspaper reviews and the review of legal documents for the context. It is concluded that PAN shows elements of usurpation of Indigenous identity, imposition of neoliberal capitalism and internal colonialism, dispossession and neo-extractivism.
