VARGAS BAUTISTA, Abraham. The construction of the «Other» from «aporophobia» in two tales of Mariana Enríquez. Desde el Sur [online]. 2024, vol.16, n.4, e0063. Epub 31-Oct-2024. ISSN 2076-2674. http://dx.doi.org/10.21142/des-1604-2024-0063.
This paper analyzes the tales «El carrito» from the book Los peligros de fumar en la cama and «El chico sucio» that corresponds to the work Las cosas que perdimos en el fuego, in which a tense relationship between subjects of different economic strata is evidenced. For the analysis of these stories, the concept of «aporophobia» enunciated by Adela Cortina is used, who proposes the term to make visible a social problem that is accentuating in Europe be-cause of the arrival of immigrants who arrive in search of better living conditions. lifetime. The stories worked on in this paper present marginal and pauperized subjects with grotesque and/or monstrous characteristics as a narrative strategy to investigate that inability to understand social groups that can converge in the same space, which are still very distant.
