AGUILAR TAMARIT(, Laura; CARRASCOSA MOLINER(, Begoña  y  LAUMAIN(, Xavier. Nolla flooring in Meliana, a jewel of ceramic tiles study and cataloguing for its preventive conservation. Devenir [online]. 2022, vol.9, n.18, pp.9-26.  Epub 01-Nov-2022. ISSN 2312-7562.  http://dx.doi.org/doi.org/10.21754/devenir.v9i18.1326.

In the 1860s, businessman Miguel Nolla Bruget founded the Nolla Mosaic Factory in Meliana (Valencia, Spain). The arrival of this industry introduced a drastic change in the rural way of life in the region. The company was recognized as a European reference in its area thanks to the high quality of the mosaic tiles produced, which were exported internationally, but also due to the implementation of leading technologies at the time, as well as the improvement of the working conditions of the employees compared to other companies at the time. In the 1970s, the Nolla Mosaic Factory closed its doors definitively after more than 100 years in operation, which lead to the oblivion of the impact it had on the history of Valencia. This investigation contributes to highlight its heritage value through the specific study of the Nolla mosaic tiles that are still preserved in Meliana and the elaboration of a worksheet for its cataloguing.

Palabras clave : Nolla mosaic; tile flooring; cataloguing.
